formerly known as Bay Area Air Pollution Control District public agency that regulates sources of air pollution in the nine counties of California's San Francisco Bay Area. Area covered include Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, southwestern Solano, and southern Sonoma Counties. From 1973 to 1978 the Control District operated a pollution control patrol to stop motorist who where vehicles were violation of emissions laws.
