Guarda Nacional Republicana
(translation: Portuguese Republican National Guard)
 The Guarda Nacional Republicana is the Portuguese gendarmerie, a military body charged with police duties among civilian populations.
The Guarda Nacional Republicana are responsible for patrolling and enforcing the law in the countryside and small towns in Portugal, as well as and providing a national highway patrol and customs agency. Another police force, the Polícia de Segurança Pública (or PSP), is the Portuguese national police force that works in large urban areas and major cities.
