B-Body Police Package B-Body Chrysler Police cars form the 1970's. These mid-sized police cars included the 1971-1976 Dodge Coronet, 1971-1974 Plymouth Satellite, 1975–1978 Plymouth Fury, & 1977–1978 Dodge Monaco. For 1971 Chrysler update it's intermediate sized B-body cars with new bodies and longer wheelbases. The Plymouth Satellite name replaced the Belvedere,and the wheelbase was updated from 116 in to 117 in. The Dodge Cornet name continues for 1971, with wheelbase updated from 117 in to 118 in. (1) A 225 ci 6 cyl was the base engine for the Coronet and Satellite police cars for 1971. Other engines for 1971 were the 318 ci 2 bbl V-8, the 383 ci 2 bbl V-8, or the 383 ci 4 bbl V-8. Ford year 1972 the 225 ci 6 cyl and 318 ci 2 bbl V-8 continued. New engines for 1972 were the 400 ci 2bbl V-8, the 400 ci 4 bbl V-8, and 440 ci 4 bbl V-8 (1) Minor front end and tail light changes were made for year 1972 for the Coronet and Satellite. Engines continued to be the same for 1973 model year. The mid-sized Chryslers received updated bodies for year 1975, with the 6 cyl engine was not longer available. The Satellite name was ended after 1974, for 1975 Plymouth's mid-sized B-body took the Plymouth Fury name, as the full sized Plymouth took the name Gran Fury. The 1975 and 1976 Dodge Coronet and Plymouth Fury were very similar, with only the grill and tail lights being different on the cars. For 1977 the B-body cars received another update to their front ends, with new square, stacked head lights. There was also a name change for the Dodge, the name Monaco was used for the mid sized B-body for 1977, with the full sized Dodge being named Royal Monaco for it's last year. The 1977 and 1978 Dodge Monaco and Plymouth Fury were the most popular police vehicles for those 2 years. For 1978 The B-body was the largest police car in Chrysler's fleet, as the full sized car would not return until 1979 with the R-body Dodge St Regis and Chrysler Newport. |
