1979-1981 Chrysler R-Body Police Package 1979 Chrysler Newport, 1980-1981 Plymouth Gran Fury, and 1979-1981 Dodge St Regis  The Chrysler R-body platform was introduced for model year 1979, based on a modified version of the prior mid-sized B-body platform. For 1979 The Dodge St Regis and Chrysler Newport were available with a police package. In 1980 the Plymouth Gran Fury name returned after a two year absence, on a car nearly identical to the Chrysler Newport, with minor changes to grill and tail lights, and a lower price than the Chrysler. The police package in 1980 and 1981 were available on the Plymouth Gran Fury and Dodge St Regis as the Newport was no longer available with a police package.
