Caprice PPV The Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle (PPV) began to be sold to law enforcement agencies in the U.S. beginning in the Fall of 2011. It was not sold to the general public. The related, shorter wheelbase Chevrolet SS was sold to retail customers starting in 2013. The car features rear drive and choice of a 3.6 liter V6 or optional 6.0 liter V8. The car was built by Holden, the General Motors Australian division. The Caprice was related to the recently discontinued Pontiac G8, but has a longer wheelbase. The Caprice is a captive import of the Holden Statesman, as opposed to the Pontiac G8 which was based on the short-wheelbase Holden Commodore version. GM has sold a version the this car in the Middle East since 2006 as the Chevrolet Caprice, as it also did with the previous version of the Holden Statesman. Engines included the standard 3.6L V-6 rated at 301 horsepower and available 6.0L V-8, rated at 355 horsepower. Both engines are backed by a six-speed automatic transmission that is performance-calibrated for police duty. (1) In it's final production year, the 2017 Caprice PPV’s V-8 engine delivered a top speed of 155 mph (248 km/h), outperforming the Dodge Charger V-8 and Ford Taurus-based Ford Police Interceptor V6 EcoBoost. (2) Production of the Caprice PPV ended in 2017 with the end of Holden vehicle production in Australia, and the closing of the plant that built the Caprice PPV and Holden Commodore and Holden Caprice the Caprice PPV had been based on. |
