1993-1994 Ford Explorer Special Service Package The Ford Explorer was the first 4 door sport utility Ford ever made, replacing the Ford Bronco II. Introduced as an early 1990 model, it quickly became the one of the most popular vehicles in America. The first Special Service Package on the Explorer became available mid-year in 1993.  The Special Service Explorer was powered by a 4.0 litre OHV V-6, with 160 hp. (1). It was available in 2 or 4 wheel drive, with a five speed manual or 4 speed automatic transmission. (2) The 1994 model was a carryover of the prior year model. The Explorer was resyled for 1995.
