Ford Police Vehicles |
With the 1950 model, Ford made available the series of commonly ordered, heavy duty, factory options and components into one ordering package, calling it a "Police Package" . In 1951 Ford first used the name "Interceptor" for the optional 110 hp flathead V8 engine in it's Police Package car.(1) . The Ford Motor Company had several significant police vehicles since then, from the 1950s to the 1980's Ford cars such as the Mainline, Galaxie , Custom, LTD, & Torino, and Mercury cars Monterey & Montego. The 1980's saw the LTD Crown Victoria and Mustang Special Service Package in police use. 1992 would be the year Ford redesigned their full sized car and gave it a shorter name "Crown Victoria", also introducing the Police Interceptor nameplate to the rear car in 1999. The Crown Victoria Police Interceptor would live on until 2011 model year, becoming the most widely used police car in the US and Canada as other competitors vehicles left the marketplace and new ones joined the field. Ford offers it's Police Interceptor and Police Responder pursuit rated police package vehicles, as well as non-pursuit rated Special Service Vehicles.
